In 2026, the FLIP rover will land on the surface of the Moon.
The rover will have a small video projector that will project onto the lunar surface.
It will be the first time video has been projected onto a celestial body.
F.L.I.P. ARCADE (FLIP Lunar Image Project – Archival Recreation of Celestial Art, Data, and Entertainment) is a mission to project the first images on the lunar surface.
The mission preserves imagery from the most significant space-themed video games ever created, weaving them into a 30-second video artwork projected across the lunar landscape. The content—video, stills, and NFTs—is permanently stored on the rover’s hard drive, ensuring that the story of human creativity and play endures far beyond Earth.
A custom algorithm blends in-game stills into an abstract work of video art.
On Earth, an exhibition featuring printed artworks, a clone of the lunar rover, and NFTs of the projected video content will be held in collaboration with Joopiter.
