In 2026, the FLIP rover will land on the surface of the Moon.
The rover will have a small video projector that will project onto the surface of the lunar surface.
It will be the first time video has been projected onto a celestial body.
The mission is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload System.
F.L.I.P. ARCADE (FLIP Lunar Image Project – Archival Recreation of Celestial Art, Data, and Entertainment) is a mission to project the first images on the lunar surface.
Using the first private lunar rover in history, the project transforms the Moon’s South Pole into a canvas for the sci-fi games that have inspired us to dream about space.
Additionally, the mission preserves imagery from the most significant space-themed video games ever created, weaving them into a 30-second video artwork projected across the lunar landscape. The content—video, stills, and NFTs—is permanently encoded in a 5D memory crystal designed to last over 20 billion years, ensuring that the story of human creativity and play endures far beyond Earth.
